Turkey tip

Hi! Tomorrow is turkey day! I have a really good tip for cooking a juicy bird...

Bake it breast side down! The juices run into the breast as it cooks and it is very juicy this way. If you cut it up before you serve it, noone will know that the skin did not come out dark brown color on the breast side!

You can also rub it with olive oil before you bake it.

Another good idea is to make your own seasoned butter by taking your favorite spices and mixing them into your butter until creamy. Then, place it between the skin and meat of the turkey and bake. Oh Yum!

Have a blessed and happy Thanksgiving!

Have you decorated your house and put up your Christmas tree yet? We put ours up several weeks ago! I usually decorate a few days before Thanksgiving. My dad and step-mom came down for a visit and I wanted everyithing all done when they got here. So, we have been enjoying the decorations for a while. Every time I look at the lights on the tree (OK, almost every time), I think about how Jesus wants us to be a light to the world. It is a very comforting thought :-)

Here is a picture of Anthony by the "tree of light". He is such a cutie isnt he????

Organization :-)

I am a very organized individual! Administrative is my middle name. Deanna Administrative that's a long one! Anyway, I enjoy keeping lists, notebooks and folders to keep my thoughts straight. I even keep a little notebook in my purse, this way if I am out and have an idea, I can write it down for later.

Here are some ideas of what I do at Christmas to help me out.....

I keep a Cristmas notebook! Each year, I write in it what I would like to give each person on my gift giving list. As I purchase or make the gift, I cross it off my list. This really helps me stay organized!

I also keep a Christmas folder. I decorated the front with Christmas stickers and labled it "Christmas ideas, recipes and traditions". In it, I keep clippings from magazines or pages I have printed off from my computer, with recipes I would like to try, traditions worth starting or anything else I am considering trying out for the Holidays this year.

Something else I do that helps me stay organized is, make a Christmas card list each year. I keep the previous years lists as well. I keep the lists in my bag with my Christmas cards and pens. This way, I am sure not to forget anyone

Black Friday!

Hello to all of you Black Friday shoppers out there! I have a link you are going to like....

You can check out the sales ahead of time. I prefer the sale ads that come in on Thanksgiving. I like to sit and look through them as I watch the Macy's Thanksgiving Day parade! I make my lists of where I need to go and what I need to get there. I also make a list of where to go first, depending on what store opens the earliest! I am out of the house before 4am!!!! But, this website is a good heads up for all of us.

I enjoy the thrill of saving money!

I have some wacky stories of the things I have seen while out shopping so early in the morning.
Be sure to start your day with a good cup of hot coffee. I will look like the guy in this picture on Friday morning =D

I hope you find some wonderful treasures!

The New Food Network Magazine

Hello! The Food Network has to be my favorite TV channel to watch (QVC, a close second). I recently purchased a copy of their new magazine. It was very resonably priced at $3.99. I found my copy at Barnes and Noble. Doesnt the cover look good?

It is full of great cooking tips and ideas and it gives you a sneak peak at what goes on behind the scenes at the Food Network.

At the beginning of the magazine, it gives you a list, with photo's of all of the recipes inside. I think this is a great idea, this way if after looking at what recipes the magazine offers, if you decide they do not appeal to you, you can put the magazine back down on the rack and walk away :-)

One of my favorite recipes that the magazine offers is a five layer bar. Yummy :-)

Here is the recipe for you:

5 Layer Bars

1 1/2 cups graham cracker crumbs

1 stick salted butter, melted

1/2 cup chopped pecans

1 cup butterscotch chips

1 cup semi-sweet choc chips

1 cup shredded coconut

1 14oz. can sweetened condensed milk

Preheat oven to 350*.

Combine grahams and butter in a bowl. Press into the bottom of a 9x13 baking dish. Sprinkle pecans, chips and coconut on top. Pour milk over the top. Bake for 30 minutes. Let cool and cut into bars!

I am a coupon clipper! In last weeks Sunday paper there was a coupon for baking can use it for this recipe and save money! I also buy the store brand butter to save money as well.

I hope you enjoy this recipe. Please let me know if you try it by leaving a comment here =D

Good morning!

Hello, all! I hope you are having a wonderful month so far! I know I have already started baking and I am enjoying it so much! I made homemade Reeses cups for my dad while he was here visiting last week. Oh, were they good :-) We had a great visit with him and Georgeann! It is supposed to be pretty cold this week, so I want to encourage you to break out your baking pans and bake something! Its a great time for that!

If you would like a recipe for anything particular, let me know and I will try and find one and post it here for you! I have quite the collection of recipes these days.

Happy Baking!
