Here we are again, discussing one of my favorite! I got a new expresso/cappuccino/latte maker for Christmas and I am already having fun with it! I enjoy coffee so much and this allows me to get even more creative with it! I have mentioned before, I call my coffee...Dee's bucks. I like to think it is as enjoyable as Starbucks coffee :-P

Here is a book that I bought last year. I guess God was preparing me for my new coffee maker! There are some great recipes in here :-)

Top 10 Christmas cookie rules (taken off the Internet)

If you eat a Christmas cookie fresh out of the oven, it has no calories because everyone knows that the first cookie is the test and thus calorie free.

If you drink a diet soda after eating your second cookie, it also has no calories because the diet soda cancels out the cookie calories.

If a friend comes over while you are making your Christmas cookies and needs to sample, you must sample with your friend. Because your friend's first cookie is calorie free (see rule #1). It would be rude to let your friend sample alone, and being the friend that you are, makes your cookie calorie free as well.

Any cookie calories consumed while walking around will fall to your feet and eventually fall off as you move. This is due to gravity and the density of the caloric mass.

Any calories consumed during the frosting of the Christmas cookies will be used up because it takes many calories to lick excess frosting from a knife without cutting your tongue.

Cookies colored red or green have very few calories. Red ones have 3 and green ones have 5 - one calorie for each letter. Make more red ones!

Cookies eaten while watching Miracle on 34th Street have no calories because they are part of the entertainment package and not part of one's personal fuel. As always, cookie pieces contain no calories because the process of breaking causes calorie leakage.

Any cookies consumed from someone else's plate has no calories since the calories rightfully belong to the other person and will cling to their plate. We all know how calories like to CLING!

And finally...Any cookies consumed while feeling stressed have no calories because cookies used for medicinal purposes NEVER have calories. It's a rule!

Running....does anyone else enjoy it? I have to say, I do!
Here are pictures of me during and finishing my first race. I ran a 5K in March of this year. I trained for it for 3-4 months. I went slow, but I finished. I actually shaved 20 minutes off my time!
It is that time again! I have begun to train for my next race! I am looking into it and finding out which one and when. Im figuring it will be in April or May. It is better for me to run when the temp is above 50 degrees.
I just got in from running! It is just great to be able to run outside. I really prefer it and it is a better workout!
Happy Running!

We went on our annual Christmas light drive, on Tuesday night. We all got our pj's on, I made some hot chocolate and off we went! We drive around our neighborhood and 2 connecting neighborhoods and enjoy the Christmas lights! Above is a picture from a house in the Winchester subdivision who had all the lights dancing with music! It looked so neat! It was like one of the ones you see on you tube!

My friend Chris gave me 2 pair for Christmas. Last night, we went to the mall and since we were going, we decided to exchange our gifts over coffee at the Starbucks in Barnes and Noble. Here is 1 of the 2 pair of slippers she gave me! Dont they match my pj's perfectly???
They even have the little rubber dots on the bottom, so I dont slip and slide through the house!
Thanks Chris!!!!

Cookie Exchange!

Friday night, was the annual cookie exchange! We had fun, playing lots of games and drinking our coffee as we pigged out on cookies and candy! There were so many tasty things to eat!

Tommie took Anthony to McDonalds to play with Mikey and Israel Polo....when either Sammie or I have a party at the house, our husbands and children flock to the empty home. Its kind of funny :-)

Saturday morning was the Christmas Ladies brunch at our Church, Living Word. It was wonderful! There were so many different foods there to try and everything was scrumptious! Im still full (Sunday).

I hear the tread mill calling me name!

Baking again.... (and the story of the lights)

Happy favorite day of the week!

I just got in from a couple errands. I picked up a few things at Lowes Food, and lights for the mailbox from AC Moore. I also had my nails done.

Lets vere a bit from the subject at hand and talk about my Christmas lights....

They hate me! Im not too fond of them this year either :-P

First, I had a fight with my tree in front of the house. I tried to put the lights up on it as I do every year and it just did not work. I got upset, yanked off the strand I had put up there and broke off several branches and broke the lights. That was last week. Yesterday, I bought a set of snowflake lights from Lowes and went to put them in that same tree. Well, the plug would not fit into any of my plugs, so, I could not use them in the tree. I took them in the house and was going to put them up on the deck so my neighbors in the back could enjoy them. Well, they would not work! So I threw them down and then out in the trash can. Anthony just watched in amazement as mommy fought with the lights. I tried to stay as calm as possible, but I gave in a little bit when I threw them down. Later, I explained to him that I should not have done that :-)

So, today, I bought more lights at AC Moore, they wound up being over 50% off! I was so happy!

Thank you God for favor! I brought them home, put them on the mailbox (because those lights decided to quit working last night), tested them and they work and look very pretty! Yey!

Back to the suject at hand....baking!

I have an order for cookies and cream candy apples, 10 of them. So, I am going to make those up today. I also have candies to make for a party. I will enjoy myself baking.
I hope you enjoyed my story of the lights and I hope it made you laugh or at least chuckle. Thankfully, I can laugh about it now :-)

Buon Natale!

Hello! I know I am always interested in learning about other cultures and their Christmas traditions. So, I thought I would let you in on some of ours...Italian!
Buon Natale means Merry Christmas in Italian. Jesu Bambino means baby Jesus!

There are several food traditions we have as Italians. Some are traditional to the entire Italian culture and some are traditions to our Italian family.

One Italian tradition is the 7 fishes. Every Christmas Eve, Italians all over the world, prepare and eat 7 fishes for Christmas Eve dinner! Some say, Italians do not eat meat on Christmas Eve because of the birth of Jesus. Just as many do not eat meat on Good Friday. (These are Catholic traditions).

I have also heard that it is a feast of 7 fishes because God created the universe in 7 days!

I remember going over to Aunt Jeannie's house as a child, with my Mother. We would go over early in the afternoon and prepare all of the fish. Then, in the evening, the rest of the family would come over and we would eat it! As I sit and write this, I am trying to remember what types of fish we had. I do remember....shrimp, clams, muscles, squid, and trout? (or some type of fish that was filleted, breaded and fried that my Uncle Ray cought at Yankee Lake in NY), scallops and Im sure 1 more!
I also remember an antipasto....that was a salad topped with meats, cheeses and olives (we omitted the meats since we did not eat meat on Christmas Eve). I remember sneaking out black oilives to eat while preparing the dish. Yummy!
I would put the black olives on my finger tips and play! I always got yelled at for doing that, but it was so much FUN!

There are some desserts I remember having as well. My Mom and her sister, Aunt Jeannie, always made the BEST cheesecakes! Thankfully, I got that gene from them :-)
We had cheesecake and Italian cookies. Italian love knots were a must every year. As well as the Russian rocks. (Yes, Italians made Russian named cookies) We had butter cookies as well, made into all different shapes, like Christmas trees and bells. They were decorated with sprinkles and those little candy balls. (I never liked the little candy balls and still do not to this day)
My nehpew is 23 now, but I recall when he was about 2 or 3, he was standing at the cookie table one year when we had Christmas Eve at our house instead of Aunt Jeannies. He was observing all the pretty cookies and picked up one of the Christmas tree butter cookies and said "Where are all the lights"? We all started laughing!

That is what I can remember.
I hope you have enjoyed our family and culture traditions!
I carry some on with my family to this very day!

Buon Natale!

Happy Monday! Yesterday was my cookie bake off! Boy, did we bake some cookies. For 4 straight hours, we baked! And the cookies and candy in these pictures are what we have to show for it! It was GREAT!

Merry Christmas!

Basketball and Baking....

Well, today is our last basketball game of this season. Anthony has had so much fun, but Im a bit glad :-) Christmas is coming and it will be nice to have the extra time to do things and just spend time with my family. To the right is a picture from our last practice. The parents scrimaged with the boys on the team. It was fun! That is a picture of Anthony scoring a basket on his dad!

Last night we went over to my sisters to celebrate my nieces birthday...she turned 13!!!! I remember when she was born. Seems like yesterday :-)

After the game today, I may bake something. I would like to try something new. Does anyone have a good cookie or bar recipe for me?

Tomorrow is a big day. It is my cookie bake off! My friend Chris and Iwill bake hundreds of cookies for several hours. Oh, it is so much fun!

Cookie House!

Happy Thursday, my favorite day of the week!

I was commenting on someones blog (you know who you are) at the beginning of the week about all of the things I wanted to accomplish this week. I have to say, I am doing really good! One of the many things, was making a "gingerbread" house with my son. Well, we made it yesterday.

It was a lot of fun =D This year, Anthony really took pride in his decorating...making straight lines with the candy and straight rows with the bears. I am really proud of him. I told him, this was the best one yet and we do this each year.

Here he is, the proud builder himself!
He is such a blessing!

Oh, by the way, its made of graham crackers and not gingerbread :-)

Im back...after a long weekend!

Hello! I had such a wonderful Thanksgiving weekend! On Thanksgiving day, I woke up to my coffee brewing...oh what a glorious smell! I watched the parade and went through the sale ads for Black Friday as I drank my warm coffee.
At 12noon, we went over to Tommie parents house for turkey and all the trimmings. It was soooo good!
After I got home, I made my shopping lists for Friday. I tried to get to bed early, but I was too excited about shopping in the morning.
I wound up getting up at 2am. I finally had fallen asleep at, needless to say, I woke up anticipating my morning coffee. I left the house at 3:30am to go shopping. After my first stop, I had brakfast (including coffee) at McDonalds. Then, off I went shopping again. I got home at 7:30 am and went back out shopping with Tommie and Anthony at 8am. Whew...what a day and it was still early!
After we got home, I had to set up the new iphone Tommie bought. I finally tried for a nap at 2pm. I got about 15 minutes of shut eye before Tommie came in and said Lee was coming for a visit. So, I got up, got dressed and put my face on.
At 2:30, I got the party platters and macaroni salad together for our family gathering that evening at my house. My sister Marlana and her family were here from PA....above is a picture of me and my 2 sisters. They were scheduled to arrive at 4pm, but arrived at 3:30. It was a great visit! Our friends, the Polo's came over fore dessert and stayed until about 10:30pm. It was a long day, but well worth every second!
I spent a lot of time thanking God for all of the wonderful things He has chosen to give me this past huband, son, family, friends, home, business, finances, Church, Pastors....just everything!
I am one thankful woman and a blessed one at that :-)
