Our family loves to give to our community. We donate to one particular organization called Inter-Faith Food Shuttle. Inter-Faith Food supplies meals to families in the community who are struggling financially. A part from that our 8 year old had a great idea of bringing a meal and some love to the homeless. So, as a family we baked cookies and packed them up. We drove downtown and handed out bags of freshly baked cookies along with a gift card to McDonalds. We enjoyed it so much that we are now trying to work with a another young man in our church that is working to provide meals and other needs to the homeless community in our area.

Our family has been involved in some kind of philanthropy since the children were born. When Hurricane Katrina hit, I took my then one year old daughter, and three year old son, and organized a food drive in our neighborhood. We rode bikes and put info on mailboxes..and collected the food in our living room. We even delivered it to the Food Shuttle, who then took it to Louisiana. We collect money for the American Cancer Society every year, and for the American Heart Association in neighborhood drives.
We are in the process now of working with our church to give to several ministries downtown (we have already donated money and food to the Women's Shelter), as well as provide meals for those at WAke Med Heart Center while loved ones are in surgery.
I want our family to be a beacon of hope, and let others know we care...and I want my children to know it is our job to help and love others.

Our family began giving back during Hurricane Katrina. We organized a neighborhood food drive, and my children and I went door to door putting requests for donations on mailboxes, and we delivered it all to the Food Bank.
We help with mailing campaigns every year collecting money for the American Heart Association and the American Cancer Society.

Several years ago, we were able to donate extra food to Raleigh REscue Mission and serve a Thanksgiving meal at With Love From Jesus. Now, we donate the food for a family so they can cook their own meal.

More recently, for the past several years, we have let the children use their own money to help with Angel Tree. That is when you buy Christmas gifts for children whose parents are in jail.

Now, we are working with our church to start a ministry that feeds family members while they are at Wake Med Heart Center in the waiting room. We will feed them, and pray with them, and hopefully be able to lead them to Jesus.

Once a year, we do spring cleaning. My kids love gathering up things to give to the less fortunate. I love the look of pride on their faces, as they tuck away their unwanted toys. I am proud that my kids are learning how giving feels. Giving is such a great feeling.
